How this card works

River Ward: Detective on the Hunt has no cost and works from your Legends area. His first ability needs no Eddies: Spend him to play a Gear with cost 2 or less from your hand for free. Because it has Quick, you can also do it as a reaction to a rival attack.

That leads to a neat trick: in the React Step, play Mandibular Upgrade onto one of your Units to give it Blocker and redirect the attack. Zetatech Faceplate equipped on River himself adjusts a Gig by up to 1 every time he is spent.

The FAQ says you may activate the Spend even with no Gear in hand, and the Gear does not have to equip River. When a friendly equipped Unit is defeated, look at the top 2 cards of your deck and trash 1; the other stays on top. He adds 2 Yellow RAM.
